The communication barrier

Communication is necessary in every organization. Clear communication creates awareness, is just in time at the right place. Good communication is valuable within organizations and should be seen as the most important asset.

Nowadays, communication can be too much and fragmented. It becomes vague and ambiguous. This is not a surprise, as we have access to loads of media outlets. We email, twitter, talk, ping, text in our daily and working life. At work; agenda's, minutes, action plans, "for your information" emails are shared daily, because it so easy to do. With one click on the mouse we share everything with each other. This causes an information overload. This overload results in the inability to absorb information anymore. Besides this, the information that is send in times of information overload causes that the information that employees receive, is not effective anymore, because employees cannot absorb the information.

Information overload causes a barrier. Is the communication that is shared really understood? Absorbed? Heard? Done? Barriers are there to break. A little change in communication flows and processes can have great effects. Not everything needs to be shared with everyone. Furthermore, personal - face to face communication is still the most effective way of communicating in organizations, as well as in daily life. The most important information can then be shared and people will absorb, hear, understand and do someting with it.
